About Sweeney Todd
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd...
Celebrate EMT’s 30th Anniversary with Stephen Sondheim’s multi-award winning musical including Oscar and Golden Globe success for Tim Burton’s big screen adaptation, which starred Johnny Depp.
Set in Victorian London during the great potato famine, Sweeney Todd is the tale of Benjamin Barker, a barber transported on false charges by a lecherous judge who takes his wife and child from him. Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, escapes and returns to London to avenge his ruined life. He meets Mrs. Lovett, a baker of meat pies, and together they concoct a recipe for revenge: Sweeney will murder his victims in his barber’s chair and Mrs. Lovett will turn them into the tastiest meat pies in London.
Not content with the challenges of Rent and Footloose, EMT is proud to be pioneering fully integrated signing for the Deaf and hard of hearing, using British Sign Language. The cast will tell the tale using voice and sign together ensuring that this Sweeney Todd will stand above the rest and bring Sondheim’s murderous masterpiece to an even wider audience!
