The joy of painting words A day course learning the art of Japanese brush calligraphy. Participants will gain a historical insight into Sho, Japanese brush calligraphy through Campbell Sandilands personal experiences. As well as learning the meditative ink grinding process and different styles of calligraphy, participants will also learn the history and background to this craft. There will also be an opportunity to taste various styles of formal and creative brush calligraphy, using different kinds of brushes. The formal styles help to hone one’s skill with the oriental brush, whereas the more expressive, free form of sosho calligraphy allows for the pursuit of a more intuitive, creative style of expression.
